Sara Wechter
Chief Human Resources Officer
Sara Wechter is Citi’s Chief Human Resources Officer, responsible for talent acquisition, diversity, talent development, learning, benefits, compensation and employee relations. Since assuming this role in July 2018, she has championed pay equity efforts, notably making Citi one of the first companies to publicly disclose its raw pay gap data for women and minorities in 2019 and annually since then. She is a member of Citi’s Executive Management team.
Under Sara’s leadership, Citi has been an industry leader in employee benefits and programs, including launching a global paid parental leave standard in every country in which Citi operates and expanding mental health resources to employees.
Throughout her tenure, Sara has worked in several leadership roles, serving as Citi’s Head of Talent and Diversity as well as Chief of Staff to former Citi CEO Mike Corbat. After starting in Investment Banking in 2004, she joined Citi’s Corporate M&A and Strategy team in 2007 and worked on the sale of Smith Barney and government investments during the financial crisis. Sara also served as Chief of Staff to Richard Parsons and Michael O’Neill during their respective terms as Chair of Citi’s Board of Directors. In this capacity, she supported Citi’s Board of Directors through a CEO transition, regulator and government engagements, and the recomposition of the Citi Board.
As a community leader, Sara serves on the Board of Directors of the Citi Foundation and NYU Hospital KIDS, and she is the Vice Chair of the Marlene Meyerson JCC Board of Directors in New York City. Sara is a graduate of Emory University and lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
